Matt Hardy was in an interview where he was asked about John Cena potentially becoming the World Champion for the 17th time in his career. The experienced wrestler spoke about the retirement tour of Cena and recalled his old days with the legendary wrestler. Hardy claimed that he would not mind Cena becoming the world champion for a record time.

Matt did not mind Cena dethroning Ric Flair in the process. Hardy felt that John was a loyalist to WWE and would be the perfect guy to get the honour of breaking a great record. "I wouldn’t mind that. I wouldn’t mind that at all. I think he is such a WWE loyalist, I wouldn’t mind that. He would be a great guy to get that honour," said Matt in the interview.

The TNA star added that Cena is one of the most important employees of the company and deserves to break the record. "When you look back at him and it’s all said and done, he spent his entire career at WWE and for WWE, and he really is one of the more loyal employees that has ever worked at WWE. So yeah, I wouldn’t mind that at all," Hardy added.

Will John Cena and Matt Hardy have one last dance together?

In the Ruthless Aggression Era, Matt and Cena had a bit of a story with each other. They came together as tag team partners. They helped each other in a big way. Cena has an elevation in his character following the rap character. Matt evolved from a tag team wrestler to a solo wrestler seamlessly. John Cena and Hardy then went up against each other.

Given that the retirement tour of Cena would be the last chance for Hardy to have one last go at the leader of the Cenation Army, it will be worth seeing the two fight each other for one last time. Now that TNA x WWE crossovers aren't a rarity, there could be a chance of Matt returning to WWE to challenge Cena for a match in 2025.
