John Cena startled the pro wrestling world by revealing his retirement plans at a Money in the Bank event in Toronto. He stated that he plans to wrestle a couple more times before formally retiring in 2025. However, it appears that his exit from the ring does not imply that he would leave the corporation entirely.
Cena has indicated that, while he will not be appearing in any one-off matches following his final contest in 2025, he will remain with WWE for the foreseeable future. According to a recent source, Cena has inked a new contract with WWE that would keep him with the organization for the "long term."
During an interview with Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay, John Cena clarified that his commitment to WWE for two decades has resulted in his signing a contract that would maintain his connection to the company even when his professional wrestling career ends. At the monthly Club Shay Shay podcast, John Cena stated, "Even after 2025, I've already signed an extension to remain a member of the WWE family for the near-, mid-, and long-term future."
Before this, Cena had stated that he could completely retire from professional wrestling by December 2025, but he would still be connected to WWE in some capacity. It wasn't written down, though. When talking about it, Cena inked a formal contract extension that would let him continue appearing in WWE events when he retires.
Cena previously stated that he and WWE were working on a schedule of 30-40 dates in 2025, including televised appearances, premium live events, and home shows. The conditions of Cena's post-2025 contract are anticipated to be similar to those of a WWE Legends contract, which allows retired talent to participate in merchandising possibilities as well as planned guest appearances at fan events and WWE television shows.
Randy Orton wants match against John Cena
Cena's retirement tour will begin in January 2025, with WWE Royal Rumble expected to be his first premium live event. Similarly, WWE fans spoke about their wish to see Cena face off against his arch-nemesis Randy Orton at WrestleMania 41. But, for the time being, the match is not set in stone, as Orton stated while discussing it with Cena; he stated that it will not be feasible until the WWE creatives desire it.
