WWE Superstars are usually of two types - heels and faces. Heel characters are those who are bad while face characters are those who are good. There is also a third category where one might not be able to depict if a wrestler is a heel or a face. More often than not, the wrestlers play either a good or a bad character to grab the attention of the fans.
In the current roster, some Superstars play the roles in their own way. While some become heels out of purpose, others don't. Even the wrestlers who become faces might be out of circumstances or by default. However, there are some cases where the individuals might not be bad by nature but are deemed so. Similarly, a face might not be good in the actual sense.
Here are the top WWE Superstars who are disguised as heels but are the face, and vice versa.

Austin Theory
Austin Theory teamed up with Grayson Waller on Smackdown about a year ago. The duo had some good matches and ended up becoming the tag team champions by claiming a big win at WrestleMania XL. They ended up losing their titles to the DIY duo of Tomasso Ciampa and Jonny Gargano.
For a lot of weeks from the Backlash 2024 till Money in the Bank 2024, there were some misunderstandings between the duo. Grayson was a bit selfish and escaped from the heat pushing his partner to the trouble. Austin never complained about it always stood up for his teammate, showing signs of good character.
Sami Zayn
Sami Zayn took the spot of Chad Gable by winning the Gauntlet match to be the number one contender to face Gunther at WrestleMania XL. After winning the title, he gave a chance for Gable to claim the title. After defending it on Raw, Sami celebrated in a way which triggered Chad to turn against him.
Fast forward to the period of Crown Jewel, Sami seemed like having a conversation with Solo Sikoa against the Usos. At Crown Jewel, Sami mistakenly delivered a Helluva Kick and did not even apologize for it. The star wrestler is a babyface. However, some of his traits are that of a heel.
Drew McIntyre
Drew McIntyre turned heel about a year ago by taking on Jey Uso. He joined the Judgement Day for the Survivor Series War Games against the team of Cody Rhodes, Sami, Seth Rollins, Jey Uso, and Randy Orton. Many felt he was at the wrong side for going against some of the faces of the company.
However, he has explained why he has gone against them. Despite carrying the company in the tough period during the pandemic, he did not get the moment he deserved. And then, the 'faces' ended up accepting Jey as one of their own on the roster, who repeatedly cost Drew the title on many occasions. He is a heel just on paper.
Cody Rhodes
Cody Rhodes has interestingly been a heel disguised as a face. The ongoing feud between him and Kevin Owens has been a byproduct of his deeds. Before the return of Roman Reigns, KO and Randy Orton stood by his side whenever the Bloodline members attacked him. It is worth noting that KO has been fighting the Bloodline more than anyone.
Given how much KO hates the Bloodline, he would never love to see his trusted ones being involved with them. Despite knowing it, Cody ended up teaming up with the OTC to take on Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu at Bad Blood. It was a clear betrayal from the American Nightmare. It was a proper sign of a heel character.
Kevin Owens
Kevin Owens might not be wrong in turning against Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. He has a highly valid reason to be upset with the duo whom he considered as friends. The duo broke his trust and left him not believing anyone in WWE. Cody was the first to break his trust by teaming up with Roman to take on the Bloodline at Bad Blood.
It forced him to attack Cody and vent his anger. For his actions, Owens has been barred from Smackdown. When KO entered the arena even after being permitted and attacked Cody, Randy was the one to stand by Cody. In the process, KO felt betrayed even by Orton. Hence, his being upset with both Cody and Orton is justified.
