The game of tennis is sometimes very unpredictable, and we see some surprising results come ours. There are even instances where even the best of players end up losing to lower or unseeded players as well. These upsets are what create a lot of drama in the game since we do not expect these iconic athletes to lose to some rookie or young player going forward.

One of the biggest upsets in the current Paris Olympics was when Coco Gauff was up against Donna Vekic in the third round of the Paris Olympics 2024. This was one of the most shocking defeats since Gauff was currently the World number 2 and was a favourite to win a medal for her nation in the Olympics. Unfortunately, she went on to lose the tiebreaker in the first set and in the end it was a disappointing straight loss for the American athlete who had played some great tennis before this shocking loss.

Gauff bashes officials

There were a lot of high expectations from Gauff in the Olympics which also explains why she broke into tears after losing the match to Vekic which ended her Olympic dream in singles. However, that is not where the 20-year-old stopped as she let out her frustration by criticising and bashing the umpires and the officials during the game saying that the official called it out before she hit the ball. Gauff went on to take out her frustration after the game saying " This is not fair. You guys are not fair to me. I hope that one day the game becomes fair, but it’s not.”

These were a sad turn of events for a player who is currently one of the upcoming stars in the game and was the youngest American to win an Olympic singles match. There was no doubt that the call in the match was slightly controversial, but we hope Gauff does not lose her confidence after this match since we have seen in her career that she is full of potential and is capable of winning big titles in the future.
