World Number 1 and Champion of the Flushing Meadows Jannik Sinner has been announced as the ambassador for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Games volunteer. He will hold the symbolic position of being the first volunteer recruited by the organizing committee. Sinner was born in the South Tyrol region, he initially pursued alpine skiing before falling for tennis at the age of 13. Notably, at the age of eight, he clinched the national giant slalom champion title in his age category. The program aims to enlist 20,000 volunteers for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Sinner the official Ambassador of Winter Olympics 2026

Jannik Sinner had an extraordinary day when he was officially and unanimously named the Official Ambassador of the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympic Games, to be hosted in Milan - Cortina di Ampezzo. This honour holds special significance for the Italian, given his upbringing next to ski slopes and his active involvement in the sport during his childhood and adolescence. He shared his sentiments during the gala where his appointment was announced.

Sinnner expressed his excitement and gratitude 

The 23-year-old , US Open Champion is excited and grateful for being honoured. He emphasized his lifelong passion for Winter Sports, dating back to his childhood. He mentioned that December 25 holds a special place in his heart as he traditionally goes skiing with his family and friends on that day. He also expressed his anticipation for the upcoming Winter Olympics, which will be held in one of his favourite locations, the beautiful area of Italy where he grew up. He described the mountains there as truly remarkable and expressed his deep love for skiing, stating that it was a great honour for him to participate in the games.

"Winter sports have always been a fundamental part of my life. December 25th is one of the most special days of the year for me: we go skiing with my family and friends. The next Winter Olympic Games will take place in very special locations for me: I grew up in one of the most beautiful areas of Italy, our mountains are a marvel. Skiing for me is like walking. It will be an honor to be part of these Games." - Sinner stated
