'Why are you on the court still?'- Former WTA Number 1 advices Rafael Nadal after his withdrawal from Laver Cup

Former WTA world number 1 Muguruza advises Rafael Nadal to retire after Nadal announced his withdrawal from the Laver Cup. The tennis legend is nearing his career end.

Rafael Nadal recently announced he will withdraw from the 2024 Laver Cup, which will begin in Berlin next week. The reason for withdrawing was his playing level was not par with the rest of the european team. 

He recently posted a tweet saying, “I’m really disappointed to share that I won't be able to compete at the Laver Cup in Berlin next week. This is a team competition and to really support Team Europe, I need to do whats best for them and at this moment there are other players who can help the team deliver the win.”

Former world number 1 and 22-time grand slam winner is nearing his career end. In his astonishing tennis career, he was a part of the Big 3, along with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. He won all four grand slam titles.

Garbine Muguruza gives her thoughts

Meanwhile, former WTA world number 1 Garbine Muguruza gave her views on the tennis legend's future. She said, “He’s so ready. His Body, his mind, just everything… It's time to also enjoy his kid! I see him smiling all the time with his baby. Im like, Why are you on the court still? Go Home, Take the boat, go in Mallorca. I think he gave everything he had.” 

She also said she met the former world number 1 at the Laureus World Sports Awards where she got insights about the tennis legend’s future. She said, “It's hard to know him. He’s very shy, We talked a little bit at the Laureus Awards in Madrid earlier this year. He said, ‘This is my last year,’ But he didn't share anything else. I don't want to ask him personal questions.”

Nadal didn't have a great season on the ATP tour this year. He suffered a hip injury and he was out of action for all of 2023. In january he played the Brisbane international exited in quarter finals. He didnt play Wimbledon, Us Open and now withdrawn from the Laver cup.
