Olympic Silver Medalist and Wimbledon Champion Carlos Alcaraz, this year's favourite to win the US Crown, faced a shocking exit in the second round of the US Open at the hands of Botic van de Zandschulp. The Dutchman ended the Spaniard's 15-match-long winning streak in Grand Slams and stunned the world with his 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 win over Carlos Alcaraz.

The Dutchman exceeded the expectations of Tennis fans around the globe in his victory over Carlos Alcaraz. Nobody was giving him any chance ahead of his clash against the pre-tournament favourite, Carlos, who arrived at the Flushing Meadows with 4 Grand Slams under his belt.

Carlos had never lost before the quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows and this loss was his first at any major tournament since his second-round exit at Wimbledon 2021 when he was a Teenager.

Botic van de Zandachulp : The new Sensation

Botic van de Zandachulp is a 28-year-old Dutchman who was going through an underwhelming season (11-18 ) before his match against Carlos Alcaraz. Botic even failed to win consecutive matches in Tour-level events in the entirety of 2024.

Botic's highest career achievement includes reaching the quarter-finals of the US Open 2021. He has never reached the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam event since 2021.

Botic is known for his powerful baseline game. He is very versatile and is adept at playing on different surfaces. Botic is considered one of the promising talents in men's tennis. 

Back in 2021, Botic was the only qualifier to reach the final 8 of the competition at Flushing Meadows, having beaten the likes of Casper Ruud and Diego Schwartzman. 

Botic achieved his career-high ranking in 2022 when he broke into the top 30. His game style is built around powerful serve and groundstrokes. He has been the Netherlands' key man in the Davis Cup Ties, particularly in the early rounds. With the experience on his side, Botic is expected to make his presence felt in the coming competitions.
