Novak Djokovic has done it! He’s finally an Olympian Champion! The 24-time Grand Slam winner had won literally everything in the game, but an Olympic title was missing in his overflowing trophy cabinet. However, he added the missing piece by beating Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s singles final at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday.

The Serbian had attempted five times in the past but had to wait till his final attempt to claim the elusive title. He stormed into the first Olympic finals after defeating Italy's Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets. After the match, he said that he had been waiting for a long time to play in the Olympic final. He made sure the wait was worth it as he gave it his all for the one last time.

In a packed Court Philippe Chatrier at Roland Garros, Djokovic produced a stunning display to beat the Spaniard in straight sets 7-6(3), 7-6(2). The 37-year-old saved eight break points to win the first set in an intense battle that lasted for one hour and 32 minutes.

The second set was even more dramatic. This time, Alcaraz made a strong start by taking a lead of 2-1. However, Djokovic bounced back to level the scoreline 3-3. The game eventually reached 5-5 and entered into a tie-breaker. Djokovic won the first two points, but Alcaraz levelled in the next two attempts. The Serbian then won five straight points to seal the match and grab the gold.

The two faced each other six times before the final and shared three wins each. Djokovic now makes the head-to-head record 4-3 and ends the Spaniard's 12-match winning streak. Moreover, legendary player avenged his loss at Wimbledon last month.

With the gold medal, the World No. 2 became the fifth player after Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams to complete the Career Golden Slam (All four Grand Slams + Olympic Singles Gold). He is also the oldest player to win a singles gold since tennis returned to the Olympics in 1988.
