As the tennis event at the 2024 Paris Olympics draws to a close on Sunday, the action now moves to North America. The main draw of the Canadian Open is set to commence on Tuesday (August 6). Notably, the men's tournament will be held in Montreal this year and the women's in Toronto.
While Jannik Sinner from the men's tournament will aim to retain his title, Jessica Pegula will aim to do so in the women's event. With tournament favourites such as Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz pulling out of the tournament due to Olympic commitments, Sinner's chances of winning back-to-back titles are high.
Djokovic and Alcaraz have qualified for the men's singles final at the Paris Olympics and will compete in the gold medal match at Roland Garros on Sunday. Meanwhile, Pegula has confirmed her unavailability in the WTA 1000 tournament, opening the door for a new champion.
The World No. 1 Sinner, however, will face tough competition from Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev. Notably, Medvedev defeated the Italian last month in the quarterfinal match of the Wimbledon championship. The absence of Elena Rybakina and top seed Iga Swiatek is a huge boost for Coco Gauff.
When and where to watch the ATP event at the Canadian Open 2024
As discussed above, the Canadian Open main draw for both events begins on Tuesday. Meanwhile, both the finals will be held on August 12. The qualifying round will take place on Sunday, August 4 and Monday, August 5.
Play on most days at the ATP event will begin at 11 am local time, while the WTA tournament starts at 12:30 pm in Toronto. Night sessions at both tournaments start at 7 pm local time.
