Tennis sensation Learner Tien achieved a significant upset by defeating world number two Alexander Zverev in the second round of the Mexican Open 2025 in Acapulco. The 19-year-old star stunned the 2025 Australian Open runner-up with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-4.
Tien, ranked number 83 in the latest PIF ATP Rankings, showcased his great performance with his consistency and tricky left-handed thriller, forcing the Germany-born star into uncharacteristic errors in the game. The American sensation produced impressive shot-making and moved effectively around the court to grab this stunning win in one hour and 28 minutes of gameplay.
Notably, Zverev was seen struggling with his forehand, committing 18 unforced errors in the game out of 27, which contributed to his loss. Despite building a 4-1 lead in the second set, the 27-year-old failed to capitalize on it as Tien broke back and won the last five games consecutively.

"I just went out there and tried to control my side of the court. Obviously, I knew it was going to be a tough match. To come through feels great... I think just focusing on what I can control and keeping my cool as best as I can has really taken me a long way," said Tien, who is into his second tour-level quarterfinal.
