The star player won the match in the epic three-setter with a scoreline of 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, after adapting to the hard court conditions following his recent clay court tournaments in South America.

The 2025 Australian Open runner-up had an awful start to the game, losing the opening set in the tiebreaker. However, the world number two executes magnificent groundstrokes, forehand, and backhand spin to win the next two sets to storm into Round 16.

Despite that, Alexander Zverev has a great start to the year, having ended up as the first runner-up in the Australian Open 2025, where he ultimately was thrashed by eventual champion Jannik Sinner.

“Yeah, by far the best. I mean, the facts speak for themselves. He's won all the Grand Slams on hard courts since last year. He's lost, I think, three matches on hard courts, right? Three, four, something like that. I'm not sure, but somewhere around that. I mean, I think the facts speak for themselves. He's in a different universe right now to anyone else. You’re just too good. I wasn’t good enough. You really deserve it. Congrats to your team as well. There’s no one that deserves this trophy more,” Zverev said.
