In an enthralling semi-final match, Jessica Pegula staged a rousing comeback to beat Karolina Muchova at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Friday, September 6. A few days ago, Pegula made her first semi-final entry and today she stormed into her maiden Grand Slam final in spectacular fashion.
Muchova completely dominated Pegula in front of a packed home crowd in the first set. Unable to live up to expectations, the American seemed nervous as she lost by a huge margin of 1-6. The Czech professional continued her momentum in the second set as well by winning the first two games.
Pegula lost seven games in a row and looked like Muchova was set for her second Grand Slam final. However, the crowd boosted the local girl's confidence and she responded in style by winning four games in a row with the help of two break points. The momentum was suddenly sifted towards Pegula, who went on to win the second set by 4-6.

Pegula aims to take revenge on Aryna Sabalenka for Cincinnati's heartbreak
Jessica Pegula will be up against Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open 2024 final. The Belarusian star defeated Emma Navarro in an intense tie-breaker earlier in the day to fight for her third Grand Slam title. Notably, it will be a rematch of last month's final at the hard-court Cincinnati Open, which Sabalenka won 6-3, 7-5.
"Hopefully, I can get some revenge out here," said Pegula recalling her Cincinnati defeat. "Playing Aryna is going to be really tough. I mean, she showed how tough she is and why she's probably the favourite to win this tournament,” she added.
