The China Open saw Gael Monfils show his graceful strokes to win a point against World number 5 Daniil Medvedev. The Frenchman still shows some of his class despite losing the game and ending his reign in Beijing. Even at 38, the former World number 6 is showing the grace and accuracy he is known for throughout his career.
The career of Gael Monfils has been a bit of a roller coaster ride where we have seen some moments of brilliance from him. He has made it to 11 Grand Slam playoffs and has won 12 ATP singles titles as well.
However, throughout his career, he has never had that peak season which would have put him among the best in the World with no Grand Slams to his name at all. However, he still has some great wins against some of the top players and is still appreciated by the tennis world.
The World class accuracy of Monfils
Monfils might not have been one of the most powerful players in the game, but his accuracy and shotmaking made him a tough competitor in the game. This is what he displayed in the match against Daniil Medvedev to win this point.
The rally did include a drop shot and an inbetweener during this rally, but it was the final shot that left everyone in awe as he slid towards the net and effortlessly won a point against the Russian. Even though Monfils has ended up on the losing side it was still great to see that he still possessed the same grace and accuracy which he has shown throughout his career.
