In the Rio Open, 2025 semi-final match against Alexandre Muller, Argentina’s Francesco Comesena made a wild attempt to save a point ended as a ‘Comedy stunt’ as he tripped over the nets. The 24-year-old Argentinean stunned World No. 2 Alexander Zeverev in the quarter-finals after defeating the German with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Comesena is ranked 86th and has already reached the headlines for his outstanding accomplishment against top-seeded Zeverev.
Even in last year's Wimbledon Open, he eliminated ATP No. 6 seed Andrey Rublev in the first round. But this time he is in the headlines for making a comedy error during his semifinal match against Muller. The Argentinean played his semi-final match against world No. 60 Alexandre Muller. After losing the first set against the French man 5-7, Comesena was desperate to catch him by winning the second set. He eventually did but with some wild stunt which became a comedy error.

Both the players were stuck in 4-4 and Comesena was leading by 30-15. The Argentinean started the serve and it was slowly moving towards a rally. But Francesco was not in that mood as he went to defend a drop shot. But due to the extra spin, the ball went forward and Comesena ran towards the net and couldn’t stop. He tripped over the net, flying towards Muller and the crowd went on a laughter riot.
The French man was immediate to help his rival and the whole scene was fun. It also shows tennis sportsmanship as one player lifts another fallen player. Francesco won the second set with his excellent gameplay in the tiebreaker. But he couldn’t capitalise the same momentum in the next set, as he lost the third and the final by 3-6. In the end, Alexandre Muller defeated Comesena and entered the Rio Open 2025 finals. He will now play against another Argentinean player Sebastian Baez.
