Span’s formidable duo Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz teamed up for the first time and registered a convincing victory in their doubles opener at the 2024 Paris Olympics. ‘Nadalcaraz’ defeated Argentina’s Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni 7-6(4), 6-4 in front of a packed crowd on Saturday on Court Philippe Chatrier.
Both didn't have a solid start but as the game progressed, they found their rhythm and outclassed the experienced doubles campaigner. Nadal, who sealed the opening set with a fierce backhand winner, looked sharp despite some injury concerns.

Can Alcaraz continue his dream run?
While Alcaraz competes in his maiden Olympics, this could be Nadal's last dance in one of the biggest sporting events. The 38-year-old, who won Olympic gold in Rio in 2016, is looking to claim another title from the French capital this year.
He seems to be enjoying his time on and off the court with young sensation Alcaraz, who is also considered Nadal's heir. Alcaraz is in scintillating form having already won the French Open and Wimbledon titles in 2024. It will be a dream season for the young lad if he can taste success in the ongoing international multi-sport event.
Meanwhile, Nadal's participation in the singles tournament is uncertain. After his first doubles win with Alcaraz, the 22-time Grand Slam champion said he was undecided on whether to compete in singles. Nadal's first singles match is against Hungary's Marton Fucsovics on Sunday.
