Carlos Alcaraz is gearing up to clinch his fourth Grand Slam title as Wimbledon 2024 begins on Monday, July 1. The Spaniard currently holds the All England Lawn Tennis Championship and aims to successfully defend his title. He is one of the favourites to have a successful outing in England for the two-week tournament.

Meanwhile, ahead of the competition, Alcaraz spoke about what it's like to return to Wimbledon for the first time since his 2023 triumph. In a video shared by Wimbledon on its social media handles, the World No. 3 shared his emotions about winning the Gentlemen's Singles trophy while on his way to return it.

“My dream has always been being in these situations, winning these kinds of tournaments, winning Wimbledon of course. When I see the trophy, I have a smile on my face seeing like all the hard work that I put every day since I started playing tennis paid off,” Alcaraz said during a conversation with Debbie Jevans, a British former tennis player and current sports executive.

“It’s a great feeling. I’m living my best life. I’m living my dream. My dream has come true,” the 23-year-old added.

Exciting to be the first match on the centre court - Carlos Alcaraz

Alcaraz will face Estonian qualifier Mark Lajal in the first round of men’s singles on the opening day of Wimbledon 2024 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC), London.

“It is exciting to be the first match on the centre court. I remember last year I told myself next year I’m gonna play my first match here on centre court. So it’s a kind of great feeling for me to be back,” Alcaraz said in the video.

Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are in the same half of the Wimbledon draw. The two are likely to face off in the semi-finals. Sinner will start his campaign against Yannick Hanfmann and will aim for his Wimbledon maiden title. Notably, Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic in last year's final to win his maiden title at the All-England Club.
