The German Open has finally found their last four players in the WTA and it has been a tournament full of surprises already. This has been a tournament that has featured some top players in the setup who are no doubt one of the top contenders for the upcoming Wimbledon, which will be the next Grand Slam tournament to look forward to by all the tennis fans.

The players who will be featured in the semi-finals of the tournament are Jessica Pegula, Victoria Azarenka, Anna Kalinskaya, and Coco Gauff. Though these players are still top contenders in the Grass season, they were not the favourites in the tournament at all. There are a lot of stories about this tournament that people will be eager to learn about going forward into this tournament.

The controversial retirement results

The biggest story of this tournament has been players retiring during the matches. Some of these matches involve the top players in the WTA scene as well. We have recently seen World number 3 Aryna Sabalenka and Ons Jabeur who are one of the best tennis players in the world right now retire which has resulted in the other players going through to the semi-finals. However, they are not the only players who have done this since before this Former Wimbledon winner Elena Rybakina also retired in her match against Victoria Azarenka. This has become the big story of the WTA 500 tournament in Berlin.

This was also the case with defending Wimbledon champion Marketa Vandrousova who also retired in the pre-quarters of the tournament. There will be a lot of people who will be eager to know the reason behind these games whether it is because of injury or exhaustion due to playing continuous tennis or just a strategy to stay one hundred per cent fit until Wimbledon this season. There will be a lot of questions asked on this matter to the players and the reasons for their retirement. This is also the reason why the whole game has changed in this competition as well.
