The first day of the Roland Garros tournament has given us some great matches. The match which everyone was looking forward to was between two long-time veterans Stan Wawrinka and Andy Murray. This was one of the most anticipated matches in the first round of the Clay season finale which everyone was looking forward to.

However, the match ended up being a straight victory for Wawrinka who trusted his aggressive game style and got the better of Andy Murray beating him in 3 straight sets. This was perhaps also the last time we would be seeing the likes of Andy Murray in the Roland Garros. This might have not been the way the former world number 1 would have wanted to end his career, but it was still a career that had some great highlights.

Andy reflects on his career

There will be a lot of people who will believe that Andy Murray with all the talent and ability he possessed was destined to amount to greater achievements, but we cannot ignore the fact that he still managed to become one of the biggest icons of the sport even with the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic were at their peak. The fact that he managed to achieve a world number-one ranking among these legendary figures is still something to admire.

After his first-round game against Stan Wawrinka, Murray during an interview went on to reflect on his career and how he has performed especially in the French Open. Murray had made it to many playoffs which also included a final in 2016. However, he had to face some heartbreaking losses in all of them with the dominance of Djokovic and Nadal. In the end, the 3-time Grand Slam champion stated " In a different time maybe the results would have been a bit different. But yeah, I'm proud of the results that I had here. I had great memories. Like you said, it was not an easy surface for me. But I always showed up and put in some strong performances." All we can say it has still been an iconic career despite facing some heartbreaks down the line.
