The Italian Open is in its last level right now and it has been a tournament worth remembering so far. This has been a tournament that has given us the highs and lows in this season of tennis. We have seen some great performances, not only from the big players but from some upcoming players as well. It will be interesting to see the history of some of these great players who have impressed us in the tournament.

Seeing most of the great performances it has been a tournament where the Americans have stolen the show. The players in the ATP who have given us these great performances are Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz. Both these American players have had some of the best performances in this tournament. While Fritz had made it to the quarter-finals, Tommy Paul has made it to the semi-finals and still keeps his chances alive in this tournament.

The story of the two leading Americans

We all know that Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz are some of the most iconic American players we have ever known, but we never knew that these two also had a great history. These two have also played 5 matches among themselves where Fritz just about holds the lead over his compatriot. The two are also in the top 20 ATP rankings as well. The battle on clay between these two has been something to talk about. Though Ftritz just about holds the lead in the ATP scene, back in the junior grand slams it was Tommy Paul who beat Fritz in the Roland Garros Juniors.

This has been a great career so far between one of the best American players right now. Paul even has a better record on clay than Fritz. It is safe to say this has been a rivalry between two countrymen known to be one of the best players in their country. Paul has also revealed his experiences on clay surfaces saying, "I actually grew up playing on clay. That was all I played on, even before going to play hard-court tournaments. The green clay, not the good stuff.” This shows why these two are possibly one of the most competitive players in tennis right now.
