Italian Open: Taylor Fritz defeats Grigor Dimitrov in an intense fourth round battle and qualifies for quarter finals

The fourth round of the Italian Open has so far been a great watch for all the tennis fans in the world. There have already been some big surprises in this tournament that we could never expect at all. After all, we are just one round away from the playoffs where all the players will be looking to book their place among one of the best players in the world. There are still some talented players in the mix who want to make their dreams come true.

The match that was looking like a great contest was between Taylor Fritz and Grigor Dimitrov. The last two encounters have also made this a match to look out for where both the players were tied in the head-to-head battle with a one-win belonging to both the players. This match was set up well with Dimitrov being a top-ranked player and Fritz being one of the top-ranking Americans in the game. It was really an interesting battle that was about to take place between the two.

Fritz edges past Dimitrov

We all expected an intense battle between the two, but it was Dimitrov who was the experienced favourite in this game. However, it was Fritz who gave the first surprise in the match dominating Grigor Dimitrov by winning the first set by a score of 6-2. This put the pressure on the Bulgarian straight away. The second set on the other hand was an intense battle between the two which went down to a tiebreaker which was an equally brutal battle between the two. It was Dimitrov who made a comeback winning the tiebreaker with a score of 13-11.

The match was down to the last set and it was still anybody's game in this epic fourth-round clash. However, Fritz was the guy who completely got past Dimitrov completely thrashing him in the last and final set. Fritz managed to win 6 games to 1 to fix his spot in the quarter-finals. This was a really great match between two great players on the ATP tour. This was also a great moment for the young American who managed to win against a much more experienced and high-seeded player Dimitrov and will be looking for an ATP 1000 title going forward.
