Iga Swiatek has revealed the trait she wishes she had from Carlos Alcaraz, as the Polish tennis superstar prepares for her return to action. Swiatek recently silenced her critics by winning the Wimbledon title and will now feature in the ongoing National Bank Open — the Canadian Open — in Toronto.

The tournament began on 26 July and will run until 7 August. Swiatek is scheduled to play her first match on 29 July in the round of 64. Ahead of the tournament, she praised Alcaraz, even though the Spaniard lost the recent Wimbledon final to Jannik Sinner.

Swiatek expressed her comfort with shorter events

While speaking to TVA Sports, Swiatek shared how Alcaraz has inspired her by always prioritising joy and fun on the court — something she admits she often forgets due to the pressure surrounding her.

“I wish I was more like Carlos because I have got to say he is a big inspiration in terms of that. He always says that the most important thing for him on a tennis court is to enjoy it and have fun and I sometimes forget about that and sometimes with all the pressure around and things we need to do off the court, you need to remind yourself about this kid that started playing tennis instead of winning for somebody and having this baggage on your shoulders,” Swiatek said.

“For sure, when Carlos shows that and when he speaks about that, it is always a good reminder for me, and I try to do that as well, but without me working on it, I think my mind would automatically go to just working, working, working,” she added.

Looking ahead to her upcoming matches in Canada, Swiatek expressed her comfort with shorter events. “I think I liked playing these shorter tournaments because physically I was always more efficient, I would say, and I could really last longer.”
