The ATP Masters1000 Rolex Monte Carlo event will begin in just two days. This tournament will feature one of the highest-ranked players in tennis right now. Everyone will be excited to see the likes of Novak Djokovic, Jannick Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev dominate the clay in the tournament. This will be the start of the clay season that everyone will be looking forward to going forward.
There have also been some heartbreaking withdrawals from the tournament as well. It is tough to see a tennis tournament that will not feature former world number 1’s Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray. The absence of these two players will be unfortunate for the fans who were looking forward to seeing them play. Especially Nadal who has won the most Monte Carlo titles and was looking to make a comeback in the clay season. However, two new faces will be participating in this iconic ATP tournament.
Wawrinka and Monfils get wildcard entries
The biggest surprise for everyone in Tennis is the wildcard entries. Last year's wild cards were Valentin Vacherot and Lorenzo Sonego, who did not make that much difference in the tournament. This time we will be seeing the return of some experienced veterans of the game. The players who are the wild card entries this season are 3-time grand slam winner Stan Wawrinka and former top 10 ATP-ranked player Gael Monfils. With both these players currently in the last phase of their careers, they will be happy to get another opportunity to come back in the upcoming Monte Carlo masters.
This is a surprise since these two players have not been having the best of seasons so far where Wawrinka has currently failed in the pre-quarters at Marrakesh and Monfils was knocked out of the Estoril Open. Since these two players are 39 and 37 respectively, this could also be their final hoorah in this season. It will still be good to see these top players finally compete and get a chance to make an epic comeback in one of the best clay-season tournaments in the ATP.
