The National Sports Governance Act requires at least four women in the 15-member body of every Sports authority in India. Sania Mirza revealed that she is not interested to be in power to ensure the development of Tennis in India. However, she wanted to be a role model to inspire young players, especially women, to take up the sport.

The veteran wondered if being in power is the only way to help the development of the sport. She felt if the power indeed helps her way, she would be interested in taking up the role. However, she claimed it was not her goal.

"I don’t know if being in that power position is the only way I can help. If I had an opportunity to contribute more by being in that position, I would love to do it. But is it something that I’m aiming for or that’s my goal? The answer is no, that’s not my goal," said Mirza when asked about being involved in a Sports administration role.

"My goal is to help as many young players as possible, especially young girls," - Sania Mirza

Sania claimed the need to be a role model for youngsters, especially girls. She felt the need to inspire players rather than be a part of the administration. However, Mirza did not press on having power to be able to do it.

"My goal is to help as many young players as possible, especially young girls, because they lack many role models. I want to share my experiences. If that allows me to be part of the system and gives me more opportunities than just helping on the phone or on the court, I’m happy to do it. But it’s not my primary focus," Sania added.
