India ended the Day 1 of its Davis Cup 2025 match against Switzerland with a lead of 2-0. Dhakshineswar Suresh and Sumit Nagal won their respective Singles matches, which helped India's cause in the World Group-1 tennis tie. While Sumit overcame Marc-Andrea Huesler 6-3, 7-6(4), Dhakshineswar beat Jerome Kym 7-6(5), 6-3 to give India an advantage.

Dhakshineswar was at his best again with his big serve and coverage of court. The 25-year-old had a bit of a challenge in the first set, which went to the tiebreaker. He won it and gained the much-needed momentum ahead of the last two sets. In the second set, there was no stopping the 626th ranked player, who outclassed the Swiss No.1 star to win the match.

On the other hand, Nagal displayed composure and overcame Huesler to provide India a big lead. Sumit had an easy first set, which he won 6-3. However, the Swiss threatened to take the game away from him in the second set, which went to the tiebreaker. Sumit weathered the storm and claimed it to win the match.

"There was pressure, but I am happy to have handled it well," - Dhakshineswar Suresh

Dhakshineswar spoke about his performance against the World No.155 and claimed he tried to stay calm and composed to execute his game. The emerging star claimed that breaking his opponent with his serves ensured his dominance in the match.

"It feels like a dream. I tried to be calm and play my game. There was pressure, but I am happy to have handled it well. It turned out to be good. Once I broke him. I thought that this is it. I have my serve. Played a pretty good game in the end," Dhakshineswar said after his match.
