The Roland Garros qualifiers are still underway and this is the chance for some players to feature in the iconic Grand Slam tournament. Though most of these players are unseeded and have not been able to qualify for the tournament some surprising inclusions still feature in this tournament.

One of the players who is featuring in the qualifiers is former world number 3 Dominic Thiem. The Austrian was at one time one of the best players in the world and known to have one of the most destructive one-handed backhands. Thiem has also got victories over the holy trinity making him one of the most experienced and accomplished players in the qualifiers.

Thiem wins the first qualifying round

Thiem was set to play Italian Franco Agamenone in the first qualifying round of the tournament. This was also the last French Open Thiem will be featuring in as he has announced his retirement from the game. It didn't start well for Thiem as he lost the first set by a score of 6-3 which put him under pressure. The former US Open champion had to make a great comeback which he did in the second set as he won 6 games to 3 to make a stunning comeback. It was down to the last set and Thiem made sure he won the set convincingly making sure he won the first qualifying start.

This was not the easiest start to the Roland Garros for the 31-year-old Austrian as he had to struggle a bit to get his first win in the tournament. However, we could still see Thiem show glimpses of brilliance which we saw in his prime. He still needs another win to make sure he qualifies and can once again make it to the main draw of the competition where he will be back to competing with the best. This being his last French Open we would like Thiem to leave the sport on a positive note and say his final goodbyes.
