Though Sumit Nagal had some great performances in this ATP season, he was facing one of his toughest challenges yet as he was up against a higher-seeded player in the first round itself facing Karen Khachanov. This was no doubt one of the toughest matches he has been part of in this entire season. There were still people curious about how Nagal will perform in this match and if he will overcome it as well.

Nagal faces brutal defeat

Being an unseeded player in the main draw against somebody who is a top 20 player and 18th-seeded player in the tournament is a tough matchup. This is what Nagal experienced firsthand as he lost both sets in one of the most brutal fashions the Russian was all over him in the match. Nagal had lost the first two sets by a margin of 6-2 and 6-0 making the chances of a comeback really tough for him. The third set, however, saw the 26-year-old Indian talent try to fight his way back into the match and went down to a decisive tiebreaker. Unfortunately, for Nagal that was all he could accomplish as he lost the tiebreaker which completely ended his journey in the Roland Garros.

This was always going to be a tough match for Nagal and he was already under pressure in the first two sets, this might have not been the way he wanted to end his Clay Season with one of the most brutal defeats of his career. Nagal still has a long way to go in the ATP scene and we hope he comes back in the next few upcoming tournaments of the season.
