India's sensational star Sumit Nagal is all set for his Wimbledon main draw debut. Notably, his appearance is the first time in the five years that the Indian player will come up in the Wimbledon singles draw. The main draw game is set to take place on July 1. Meanwhile, Nagal competed at Wimbledon back in 2018, where he suffered a heavy defeat against Kamil Majchrzak in straight sets in the qualifying round.

The last Indian to appear in a Wimbledon singles draw was Prajnesh Gunneswaran in 2019. The 26-year-old, who currently holds 94th spot in the ATP rankings, achieved his career-best men's ranking of 80 last month. The tennis player already won the Junior Wimbledon Boys Doubles title in 2015 with his partner, Nam Hoang Ly. However, Ramanathan Krishnan was the first Indian junior to win the title in 1954.

Sumit Nagal is set to make his Roland Garros main draw debut on May 1 this month. Meanwhile, the main draw matches are set to commence on May 26. He got the chance to appear in men's singles owing to his career-high world ranking of 80. Moreover, he is the first Indian male player to qualify for the French Open since Prajnesh in 2019.

But good preparation ahead of Roland Garros. Paris next: Sumit Nagal

Meanwhile, Sumit Nagal fought hard against Sebastian Baez of Argentina but was eliminated in the first round of the Geneva Open 2024. The Argentine clay court specialist thrashed the world no. 94 6-7 (7) 3-6 in a difficult match that lasted one hour and fifty-two minutes on Sunday. The 26-year-old was totally disappointed after the loss at the Geneva Open 2024; however, he seems to see this match as a practice for the upcoming French Open 2024, which is set to commence on May 26.

"Gutted with the loss today. But good preparation ahead of Roland Garros. Paris next," Nagal, who has secured a spot in the French Open, tweeted following the setback.
