Reacting to the development, former tennis star Andy Roddick described the news as upsetting and expressed his concerns about Draper’s fitness.

"Some upsetting news yesterday was that Jack pulled out of the tournament with an elbow injury after not having played since Wimbledon. I hope this is nothing serious,” he said.

The American further praised Draper’s progress this season, calling him one of the standout players of the year.

“One of the best stories of the year was when he won Indian Wells and reached the Madrid final. Until Rome, he was probably the third-best player of the season. After that growth and momentum, it's hard to see someone sidelined with injuries,” he added.

Roddick also highlighted the worrying signs around Draper’s fitness situation.

“Jack came to New York after missing Toronto and Cincinnati and entered mixed doubles. We all hoped his body was fine, as you do not stress your body if you are not fine. He passed the first round before withdrawing, and he would not do that without a risk of making his injury worse. He seemed healthy, and it's concerning to see him withdrawing. I did not see him shaking out his arm in mixed doubles,” he said.

Looking back at Draper’s progress, Roddick stressed how unfortunate the setback is, especially given his performances last year and earlier this season.

“Jack's situation sucks. He reached the semi-final here a year ago and has played well since. I hope he gets healthy. You try not to be negative and fear the worst. He has so much potential, and I hope he does not go sideways or take six months off," Roddick concluded.
