Qinwen Zheng opted out of the US Open 2025 after undergoing elbow surgery, as she confirmed it through an Instagram post. The Paris Olympics Gold Medalist claimed to have been dealing with extreme pain on her right elbow during practice sessions and matches. While she tried to manage with temporary treatment, Qinwen said the discomfort did not vanish completely.

"I want to share a quick update with you all. Over the past months, l've been dealing with persistent pain in my right elbow during training and matches. Despite trying various treatments to manage it, the discomfort never fully went away," write the Chinese star on Instagram.

Qinwen took part in the major Grand Slams of the year like the Australian Open and Roland Garros. At Wimbledon, her pain was visible, as she played with an elbow sleeve to ensure safety. The 22-year-old confirmed to have undergone a successful arthroscopic surgery after consulting elbow specialists and discussing with her team.

"After consulting with elbow specialists and discussing thoroughly with my team, we decided that arthroscopic surgery was the best option to fully resolve the issue. Yesterday, I underwent the procedure successfully, and I'm grateful to have it behind me," Zheng added in her statement.

The star player added that her next few weeks and months will be the period of recovery. She added that her focus will be on rehab to get healthier and stronger to be back on the court as soon as possible. Qinwen concluded by thanking her fans for standing through her tough time and hoped to see them soon.

"Now begins the recovery journey. Over the next few weeks and months, I'll be focusing entirely on rehab-doing everything I can to come back stronger and healthier.
