Qinwen Zheng didn't find it appropriate and claimed Townsend disrespected the Chinese culture and claimed she could get fried chicken at the KFC if she wanted. Townsend apologized to her statement, claiming she would be mindful of her words in the future.
Townsend posted a video where she was surprised to see frog and soft-shelled turtle in the menu. She enquired how they were in the menu considering they provide warts and boils. "These people are literally killing bullfrogs. Aren't those poisonous? Aren't those the ones that give you warts and boils?" Townsend asked in her video.

It did not go well with the Chinese people, which led to a huge backlash. Qinwen, the Chinese WTA star, reacted to the incident, and claimed Townsend to be an arrogant and disrespectful individual. "You disrespect Chinese culture with your arrogance. If you want fried chicken, there's KFC at the airport in Shenzhen," Qinwen wrote on her Instagram story.
Taylor Townsend apologizes to the Chinese people for her controversial statement
Following the huge backlash, the 28-year-old decided to apologize for her conteoversial video. Townsend sincerely apologized for her take on the Chinese food. She claimed herself to not be the person as per her statement. She promised not to say anything that would hurt anyone's sentiment in the future.

"I just wanted to come on here and apologise sincerely from the bottom of my heart. The things that I said are not representative of who I am at all. There is no excuse. I will be better," Townsend released a video and apologized for her choice of words.
