The two players struggled hard to serve and had many breakpoints. This is Paula’s second match this year and she lost the first match against Elina Avanesyan in the Brisbane Open last week. If Paula had lost this match then she would have gone with a 0-2 to the Australian Open. After this win, she will face either Marta Kostyuk or Ashlyn Krueger in the round of 16.

Paula dominated initially by winning the first few games as Peyton Stearns was fighting hard to save the first set. But when they had the tiebreak, the Spaniard failed to convert into a win and her challenger triumphed in the set. Badosa lost her first set in a tough battle and bounced back immediately in the second and third sets. In the final set, she had a tiebreak twice but fought back to win. Badosa managed to convert all those big moments in the game to a win and the American player failed miserably.

The 2024 season was better for Paula as she found her lost form and returned to rankings. Before coming to Australia Paula Badoso was very excited for the season opener. She said, “Australia is one of my favourite places to play tennis during the year. I think I had one of the best pre-seasons of my career. I worked really hard, with very clear goals in mind, and I hope all the work I’ve done will pay off as soon as possible. I can't wait to see the work pay off.”

After finishing the Adelaide Open tournament she will head to the biggest season opener the Australian Open Grand Slam. 2022 was her best year as she moved up to No. 2 in the WTA rankings. She is now the No 12 seed and this year she has many goals and one of them is to win the Australian Open.
