Roger Federer, the legendary tennis player, announced his retirement from professional tennis on Thursday, September 15. This year, following the Laver Cup in London, the 20-time Grand Slam winner will hang his shoes and put an end to his Legendary career. Federer, one of the best athletes to have ever lived, ends his career with a legacy that will be difficult to top in the years to come. 

The 41-year-old Roger Federer stated that while he will always be involved in tennis, the Laver Cup, which begins on September 23, will be his last competition on the circuit. Federer hasn't participated in the circuit since his 2021 Wimbledon quarterfinal run, but he hasn't ruled out a return. 

The legendary Swiss player claimed that his body has made it plain what it wants, despite his recent struggles with recurrent knee injuries. When Federer visited the centennial celebration of Wimbledon Center Court earlier this year, he expressed his desire to play in London at least one more. It was also anticipated that Federer will return to the professional ranks at his home event in Basel.

Federer has accepted the "bittersweet" call, nonetheless, having had three knee surgery in the previous two years. When Federecvxz r successfully defended the Australian Open title in 2018, it was his final Grand Slam victory. In 2019, Roger Federer made it to the Wimbledon final, however he was defeated by Serbian sensation Novak Djokovic.

Roger Federer won eight Wimbledon titles

Federer ended with 20 Grand Slams, two fewer of Rafael Nadal's record for the most men's singles in history. Federer was the first of the Big 3 to surpass the 20 Grand Slam milestone in 2019. With 21 Grand Slam victories, Djokovic was disqualified from the US Open and Australian Open in 2022.

Federer achieved the most success on grass, going on to win eight Wimbledon championships. He received five US Open trophies and six Australian Open titles. On the red soil, Federer's lone Grand Slam victory was in 2009.
