Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion, is rumoured to be seeking a high-profile addition to his coaching team, according to his close friend and Serbian Davis Cup captain Viktor Troicki. This potential move could mark a significant step in Djokovic's preparations for the 2025 season.

The Serbian superstar has been without a permanent head coach since parting ways with Goran Ivanisevic in March 2024. Under Ivanisevic, Djokovic enjoyed tremendous success, capturing nine Grand Slam titles. In the interim, Djokovic’s team has consisted of manager and hitting partner Carlos Gomez-Herrera, with former doubles world No. 1 Nenad Zimonjic stepping in briefly during the clay-court season.

Troicki, a former world No. 12, hinted at the development during an interview with Sport Klub, expressing optimism about Djokovic’s commitment to the upcoming season. “I am glad that Novak stated he is 100 per cent starting preparations for the new season,” Troicki said. “I even heard that something was brewing with a new coach, a big name. That’s the gossip I heard yesterday; I didn’t hear it directly from him.”

Troicki praises Djokovic!

Troicki emphasized Djokovic’s unparalleled motivation and focus, qualities that were evident during his victorious campaign at the Paris Olympic Games earlier this year. "When Novak really ‘bites,’ there is no equal to him,” Troicki stated. “His sharpness was evident at the Olympics from the very first training session. When he believes in something, he is truly the strongest.”

While the identity of the potential coach remains speculative, Troicki highlighted the qualities Djokovic might seek in a mentor. “Novak won’t need someone to teach him technical skills like forehand or backhand, but he needs a figure he can trust and share experiences with,” Troicki explained. “It might not necessarily be someone with extensive coaching experience, but certainly a name with great reputation and stature.”

As the tennis world speculates about who this “big name” coach could be, it’s clear that Djokovic remains laser-focused on extending his legacy. If the move materializes, it could signal another dominant chapter for the Serbian maestro in his already illustrious career.
