Novak Djokovic grateful to Carlos Alcaraz for his Olympic Gold

Novak Djokovic revealed in an on-court interview at Stars of the Open Charity event that he was grateful to Carlos Alcarez for letting him win the gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Novak Djokovic teamed up with Tennis legend John McEnroe in a doubles match against Carlos Alcaraz and Andre Agaazi at the Stars of Open Charity event ahead of the US Open. The duo of Djokovic and McenRoe defeated Carlos and Agassi 10-8 in the exhibition match at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Novak's Ultimate Reveal 

Following the match, during an on-court interview, the Serbian shared an intriguing anecdote. He revealed the message he conveyed to the young Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz after the conclusion of their gold medal match at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Djokovic revealed that he thanked and was grateful to the 21-year-old Carlos, for "letting" him win his first Olympic Gold. 

Djokovic stated, "I told Carlos at the net when we finished the final that I was very grateful to him for letting me win the gold. He is probably going to have like 3 Gold before he retires."

This victory secured a career golden slam for the 37-year-old Serbian. He became only the fifth player in the history of the sport to achieve this remarkable feat. Notably, Djokovic entered the Paris Olympics without any titles in 2024, facing scepticism about his ability to claim a podium position. However, the Serbian star demonstrated unwavering faith, self-belief and self-determination and ultimately proved his sceptics wrong by emerging victorious at the Olympics. He defeated Matthew Ebden, Rafael Nadal, Dominik Koepfer, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Lorenzo Musetti and Carlos Alcaraz to win his maiden Olympics Gold. Olympics glory ensured Djokovic's entry into the elite list of players who have secured a career golden slam -  Rafael Nadal, Andre Agassi, Steffi Graf, and Serena Williams.
