There is a lot of hype and expectations from the upcoming US Open tournament which every tennis fan will be looking forward to. After all, this is one of the biggest and most expensive Grand Slams to watch out for with some of the top players in the game and a huge prize pool for the players. We all will be looking forward to seeing which players will be a huge part of the tournament and will be favourites to win the Grand Slam title.
One of the major favourites of the Grand Slam event is none other than the Serbian Legend Novak Djokovic who will also be one of the top-seeded players going forward. Djokovic will be looking forward to getting to his 25th Grand Slam title and will already be high on confidence after his recent Olympic gold medal victory in Paris. This was perhaps one of the biggest highlights of the season which Djokovic will never forget at all and he will surely want to make a big statement in the Grand Slam event.
Juan Del Potro on Djokovic's Gold medal
There are a lot of people who celebrated Djokovic's Gold medal victory in the Olympics which has been a long struggle to win for him. This was also one of the most emotional moments for him and some other players as well. One of the tennis players who understood that feeling was Argentinian two-time Olympic medalist Juan Martin Del Potro. The former 2009 US Open winner opened up on how emotional he was after seeing one of his rivals win a Gold medal saying " He made me cry the other day when he won the gold medal. It was the first tennis match that I cried.” These words from the 35-year-old veteran made sense since even he had narrowly missed out on that glory as well.
Del Potro had come close just like Djokovic on two occasions to winning a Gold medal where he could only manage a bronze medal in 2012 and fell short of winning Gold after losing to Andy Murray in 2016. This statement shows that he has been through the same struggle as the Serbian and relates to it as well. It is safe to say that Del Potro celebrated and understood the emotions of Djokovic when he got his hands on the Gold medal in Paris.
