For the first time since his injury-plagued 2017, Novak Djokovic will finish the year without a major title in his hand. The Paris Olympics is the Serb's only championship of the year and his fewest in any season since 2005 when he made his senior circuit debut.

There have been rumors about the 37-year-old retiring because of his declining ability to win titles; many people would rather see him go on a high note rather than be forced to retire because of injuries. Novak Djokovic, meanwhile, has a different idea about his retirement and feels "sorry" for anyone who believes he should retire. "Maybe I’ll change my mind soon, but now I feel like I want to keep going. I feel sorry for those who want me to retire, but I still have some time left."

For the first time since 2017, the 24-time Grand Slam winner has not won a major championship in a year. Despite his sluggish play, Djokovic, 37, maintained that he was still driven to win more championships and had no immediate intentions to retire.

Novak Djokovic lost to Jannik Sinner in Shanghai Open finals

Roger Federer, Andy Murray, and Rafael Nadal all of Novak Djokovic's peers were forced to retire in recent years due to physical failure. Chris Evert, the tennis superstar, said in August that if he wins his record-breaking 25th major at Flushing Meadows, he might retire since he would have nothing more to do, especially after earning his elusive Olympic gold medal. Evert was afraid that this would happen to "The Joker."

The U.S. Open saw Djokovic lose shockingly in the third round, therefore that forecast was not realized. A 100th ATP championship is another accomplishment Djokovic can cross off his bucket list in addition to winning his 25th major, which will help him break the record of Chris Evert for the most slams. He came so close to doing so last week before losing to Jannik Sinner in the Shanghai finals.
