Laver Cup was started in 2017 and was named after Rod Laver, one of the legends of the sport. A couple of years later, ATP started to fund it. TEAM8, Roger Federer's management company, Jorge Paulo Lemann, a Brazilian businessman, and Tennis Australia jointly planned and created the tournament.
