The tennis fraternity has been gearing up for the second Grand Slam of the year, the French Open 2025. Many of the ATP stars are in red-hot form and have been making audacious headlines with their performance in the recent tours. Star player Jannik Sinner won the Australian Open 2025 earlier this year, while Carlos Alcaraz is the defending champion in Roland Garros.
It will be intriguing to see who wins the title this time. Many of them have already begun the preparations and are trying not to get injured ahead of the tournament. The Italian Open 2025 is going on, and thereafter, ATP 250 and 500 tournaments are set to take place ahead of the French Open 2025.
We will be seeing many top-class players skipping the upcoming Hamburg Open and Geneva Open ahead of the French Open 2025, which is starting on May 18 and set to conclude on May 24, just two days ahead of the French Open.
Why do Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic need to play in the Hamburg Open and the Geneva Open, respectively?
Speaking about the same subject, former tennis legend Jim Courier acknowledged Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic's presence in the forthcoming tournament, considering the few matches the duo has played. Djokovic suffered an exit in the opening round of the Monte Carlo and Madrid Open before pulling out from the ongoing Italian Open 2025.
“There is a lot of insurance at play for someone like Sinner. For Djokovic, he needs the matches as he hasn’t played and he is going to try and do what he did last year, which is maybe get two or three matches and then pull the cord and get to Paris with a little bit of match toughness,” he said on the Tennis Channel.
However, top ATP stars Casper Ruud, Lorenzo Musetti, and Holger Rune's decision to play in this tournament does not sit well with former tennis star Jim Courier. The 54-year-old tennis legend feels that money could be the reason for their participation in this forthcoming tour.
“But I’m really shocked, honestly, to see some of these names on here. Look, let’s set the table. These tournaments can pay appearance fees," he added further.
