Jannik Sinner completed his exceptional Grand Slam year by securing his second major title on Sunday at the US Open, defeating Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in a remarkable display of power-packed tennis. The 23-year-old Italian showcased his prowess, dashing Fritz's title aspirations and underscoring his ascent to the top of the tennis world over the past 18 months. Sinner, now ranked World No. 1, has captured six titles in the 2024 season, leading the ATP Tour and surging 4,105 points ahead of his closest rival, Alexander Zverev, in the race for the ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF honours.

This year, we've seen an exciting trend in tennis with young players like Carlos Alcarez winning major tournaments such as Roland Garros and Wimbledon. It's the first time since 1993 that all four majors in a single year have been won by players 23 or younger. Jannik Sinner expressed his appreciation for the new generation of champions, acknowledging the competitive push that they give each other to improve. During the trophy ceremony, Sinner emotionally shared that the title means a lot to him, especially after facing challenges in his career. He thanked his supportive team and the people close to him. Sinner expressed his love for the sport and dedicated his US Open victory to his ill aunt.

Sinner expressed his delight for the sport to see new Champions

In the post-match interview, answering the question of the big 3 of Men's Tennis not winning a single Major title this season, Sinner stated that it's something new but also something nice for the sport. He feels happy for the new champions and is excited for the new rivalries that come along with it. Sinner feels his contemporaries always push him to be a better player. He emphasized the process of strategizing to beat a few players.

Speaking about his final performance, Sinner mentioned he was not completely happy with what he did on the court. He believed he could have served better, and such small things made him realise that he needs to continuously put in effort in his game to become a better player. He feels acceptance of the routines, challenges and difficult times makes a player grow enormously.

Jannik Sinner stated, “It’s nice to see for the sport to see some new champions. The new generation, we push each other, trying to improve. Then obviously there are a lot of players who we first have to beat to play against the best players in the world. There are a couple of upsets lately. Just trying to stay focused on my own path. I’d say pressure is something nice to have. If you don’t have pressure, it means something is missing. It doesn’t matter what tournament you play in, the pressure is always gonna be there. So I’m happy about that. Privileged to be in this position. The work is never done. There are always players who are gonna push you to the limit. I’m just looking forward to my process.”
