While Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek will be battling it out in the semi finals tommorow, the opponent of world number 2 Aryna Sabalenka was still to be decided in this tournament which has been truly impressive.

The match that was to decide the last semi finalist was between Danielle Collins and Victoria Azarenka. This was clearly one of the contests to look forward to where the 2-time Grand Slam champion was to compete against the in form American of the WTA tour. While Collins was the higher seeded player this tournament she was still up against a former world number 1 player. This was a match up everyone was eager to see who will come out on top.

Collins gets the big win

This was no doubt still a big game in the tournament and there was a lot of hype behind this game. It was Collins who got the better of Victoria Azarenka in the first set as she won 6 games to 4 to put the Belarusian in trouble straight away. The second set was once again doiminated by the 30-year-old American and has kept her chances alive to win her second WTA 1000 title this season where she will compete once again with Sabalenka who beat her in the fourth round of the Madrid Open.

This ensures that Collins will take the last spot in the semi finals where she will be only two wins away from getting her hands on the Italian Open title. It will be a couple of challenging games for her considering the top three players will be featuring in it as well. She will be amongst the likes of Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek as well. More than that it is also a chance for her to avenge her loss in Madrid in this upcoming semi final clash as well, which will be another big achievement for her.
