Until a fortnight ago, Novak Djokovic's participation in Wimbledon 2024 was uncertain. He shrugged off all injury concerns with tremendous performances throughout and is now set for his 10th Wimbledon final as he takes on defending champion Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday (July 14).

The Serbian faced a lot of boos from the crowd, but he never hesitated to return them with his words as well as the racket. The 24-time Grand Slam winner outclassed 25th seed Lorenzo Musetti 6-4 7-6(2) 6-4 on Friday to set up a mouth-watering rematch of the 2023 final.

Speaking in an on-court interview after the semi-final clash, Djokovic recalled his childhood days when he dreamed of playing in the prestigious Wimbledon tournament. As he is one step away from winning a record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title, the 37-year-old recounted the moments he told himself in front of the mirror that one day he would be champion.

"Wimbledon has always been a childhood dream for me - to play it, to win it. I've said the story many times but I think it's worth repeating it. I was a seven-year-old boy in Serbia watching the bombs fly over my head and dreaming of being on the most important court in the world, which is here - Centre Court at Wimbledon,” Djokovic said.

"[I was] constructing a Wimbledon trophy out of any material that I h ad in the room and watching myself in the mirror and telling myself I'd be a Wimbledon champion one day. So the visualisation part was very very strong,” he added.
