Young sensation Carlos Alcaraz is considered one of the favourites to win the US Open 2024. The Spaniard has won two Grand Slam titles this year - the French Open and the Wimbledon Championships. He will be eyeing his fifth major as the final marquee event of the year is set to kick off on Monday (August 26).

Alcaraz gained superstar fame when he defeated Casper Ruud in the final of the 2022 US Open to win his maiden Grand Slam title. Meanwhile, his pursuit of a second title at the hard-court tournament took a hit after he suffered an injury during a training session.

The 21-year-old twisted his right ankle during a practice session with Francisco Cerundolo early on Sunday. He was seen hobbling and decided not to continue the session. The young lad also admitted that he was not feeling well enough to continue practice.

I’m going to be at 100%, for sure. It’s about time: Alcaraz

Meanwhile, in a press conference later in the day, the former US Open champion clarified that he is feeling better and should be fully fit for the tournament.

“I think it is okay. I just stopped my practice session for precaution. I didn’t feel comfortable enough to keep practicing just in case if everything is going to be worse,” Alcaraz said.

“But after a few hours later, I’m still feeling good, you know, my feet. So tomorrow I will try to be practicing again 100% without thinking about it, but today I’ll take care about it.”

“I don’t want to stop any practice. I want to practice, I want to get better, I want to get ready for the tournament. But honestly with the ankle, I wasn’t worried about that. So I’m sure that tomorrow or in two days I’m going to be at 100%, for sure. It’s about time,” the World No. 3 added.

Alcaraz will have tough competition from a few superstars including top seed Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev and his biggest rival at the moment, Novak Djokovic. The four-time Grand Slam champion lost to Djokovic in the men’s singles final at the Pari Olympics earlier this month.
