Tennis star Sofia Kenin has stormed to the Charleston Open 2025 finals and seems on the verge of capturing her first WTA title. However, her opponent Amanda Anisimova's walkover in the semi-final thriller at the Credit One Stadium was not a plan. Kenin will be facing formidable player Jessica Pegula as the two WTA stars aim to win this title here.

The star player has advanced to the summit clash after Anisimova retired from the game due to back injuries. Notably, Anisimova retired from the mid-game, resulting in this semi-final being a walkover, which allowed Sofia Kenin to reach the final game.

Meanwhile, Sofia Kenin has played at this WTA 500 event as a non-seeded player and defeated Bernarda Pera before winning against Belinda Bencic and Daria Kasatkina. Thereafter, the 26-year-old star player defeated Anna Kalinskaya in the quarterfinals to make it to the last four rounds.

The recently concluded semi-final game between Kenin and Anisimova was halted after 29 minutes of play. Anisimova seems uncomfortable on the court and wants to retire from the first-set deficit.

However, Sofia Kenin has showcased her true sportsmanship and wished for a better recovery for her opponent after the 23-year-old tennis player went on to retire. The 26-year-old star player has hailed Anisimova's game plan while stating her incredible performance this year.

"I told her I hope she feels better and recovers well because it’s a long clay swing and she’s been playing some great tennis throughout the year. I wish her the best of luck and I really hope she feels better," Kenin said in the post-match on-court interview.
