The Paris Olympics tennis events were no doubt one of the most entertaining contests we had ever witnessed. The number of top players in the tournament aiming to achieve Olympic glory. The player who was one of the favourites was none other than Iga Swiatek who eventually settled for Bronze after facing a shocking defeat against Chinese number one player Qinwen Zheng in the semi-finals which ruined her chances of winning a Gold Medal.
Though this was where Iga Swiatek's golden dreams were officially shattered, there were still people who thought that her drama with American tennis player Danielle Collins got her down. The quarter-final game had all the drama in the world where Swiatek was even hit with the ball and there were problems Collins was facing where she thought Swiatek was intentionally delaying her service. Eventually, Collins retired from the game due to injury but also threatened the World number one after the game as well.
Swiatek sheds light on the issue
There are a lot of rumours that this was the match where Swiatek faced a lot of problems and that caused a lot of problems for her in the semi-finals. Swiatek however shed light on the issue saying " To this day, I still don't understand where her comment came from. I decided there was no point in looking into it. I focused on myself. I'm a professional, and things like that don't affect how I play tennis later on."
This statement from Swiatek seems like the most professional answer and we should also respect her for taking a stand for herself. There is no doubt that there were a lot of speculations and rumours regarding this subject, but the Polish superstar had handled the issue really well and it seems like this issue did not really play much of a role in Swiatek missing out on the Gold medal match in Paris.
