Holger Rune gave back to a fan who trolled him for not accepting the defeat graciously. Rune lost the match against Jannik Sinner in the quarter-final stage of Monte Carlo Masters 2024. There was a controversy during the match which led to an aggressive version of Rune in the middle. It probably did not go well with the fan who trolled the star for his act in the arena.
After losing the match 4-6, 6-7 (6-7), 3-6 to the Italian, Holger took a dig at the management for having him play three matches in about 38 hours. Though he did not mention anything, the frustration of having to play as many matches in less time was pretty evident in the way he pointed out the scheduling of the tournament. Rune took to X and wrote about his campaign.
"3 matches in 38 hours a short but beautiful @ROLEXMCMASTERS. Happy about my level of tennis. Things to improve still and will start working on them this Monday. Enjoy the weekend," wrote the world number 8. One of the fans trolled him saying that the real champions do not cry. "Real champions don’t cry like this. Lesson # 1," said a fan on Rune's post.
"If I want to cry, I cry. If I want to scream, I scream" - Holger Rune
Holger wasted no time to give it back to the fan. The star player claimed that if he wanted to cry or scream, he would without hesitating. Rune added that he did not cry and claimed that he highlighted how short his campaign was in Monte Carlo Masters. The youngster said that he spent a long time in Europe and played just three matches and regarded it to be very efficient.
"Hi. If I want to cry, I cry. If I want to scream, I scream. That's me. And by the way, I never cry. This post was mainly mentioning that it's probably the shortest tournament I had in a long time in Europe and still 3 matches. Very efficient," added Rune in his comment as a reply to the fan.
