Tennis star player Ben Shelton lost the opening match of the tournament against Flavio Cobolli 4-6, 7-6 (1), 6-2 at the Geneva Open 2024, which has put a halt to his final preparations for Roland Garros 2024, set to begin on May 26.

Meanwhile, speaking about the game here, the No. 4 seed hoped to build on his solid clay swing before the second season. However, he failed after spending two hours and one minute on Centre Court, as the great player Cobolli changed the tables and headed to his third ATP quarterfinal of the season, making Shelton out of the marquee event.

Meanwhile, many other Americans were successful in moving from their faster-court style to clay courts. Shelton began the pattern with his second career victory in Houston and reached the third round of both the Mutua Madrid Open and the Rome Masters 2024.

The 21-year-old, who just last month achieved a career-high ranking of No. 14, opted to play one last warm-up match before the second big tournament of 2024, drawing Cobolli after a first-round bye. The match ended in a straight-set loss to Zhang Zhizhen at the Foro Italico.

I enjoy playing in Geneva and I really hope to come out playing as well in the next match: Flavio Cobolli

Meanwhile, the Italian star player was ecstatic after the win, and he is enjoying playing at the Geneva Open 2024 ahead of the French Open 2024. In addition, the star player revealed that he has been playing against a lot of lefties for so long, which is helping him win the games. This game boosts the preparations of Roland Garros, set to take place in Paris.

"I'm really happy for the win. I enjoy playing in Geneva and I really hope to come out playing as well in the next match. This year, I've played against a lot of lefties so I like to play lefties. You saw today!," Flavio Cobolli said after the great win over Shelton as being quoted by ATP Tours.
