Anna Kalinskaya has to wait for her first WTA title, as she went down to Leylah Fernandez 1-6, 2-6 in the Washington Open 2025 final. While it was not the best of the nights for the Russian, the Canadian had a great night, as she won the biggest tournament of her career in style and impressed everyone with her performance.
Fernandez was dominant over her opponent right from the word go and committed little to no mistakes. With the progression of the match, it seemed like the World No.48 struggled to time her shots. In the end, she managed to win just three games, while Fernandez claimed a comfortable win to clinch the title.

"It’s been a pleasure to play in front of you all. I want to congratulate Leylah. Amazing fight this week. You truly deserve it. See you soon, maybe next week we'll play each other. You never know," said Kalinskaya after her loss, who did not seem upset after losing a one-sided final.

Despite not ending on a winning note, Kalinskaya had a good run in the tournament. The emerging star overcame the 4th seed Kamilla Rakhimova 6-2, 6-3 in the Round of 32, followed by a 6-4, 6-0 win against Magda Linette in the Round of 16 to progress to the Quarterfinals.

Kalinskaya was exceptional against Clara Tauson as she beat her 6-3, 7-5 to enter the Semifinal. Against Emma Raducanu, she had a dominant game and overcame the US Open 2021 winner comfortably 6-4, 6-3 in straight sets to make it to the final. While the Russian star lost to the Canadian in the final, her campaign turned out to be impressive.
