In a shocking turn of events, Jelena Ostapenko failed to capitalize on four match points against Canadian wildcard Marina Stakusic during the second round of the Guadalajara Open. Despite a strong comeback by Ostapenko, Stakusic clinched a remarkable victory, marking her first Top 20 win.

The Tale of the Fixture

Stakusic dominated the match, comfortably securing the first set. Even though the Canadian teenager held a 5-3 lead in the second set, she couldn't convert the match point as Ostapenko rallied. The Latvian player staged an impressive comeback, winning eight consecutive games, and went on to take the second set 7-5.

With a 4-0 lead in the decider, it seemed like Ostapenko had control, but Stakusic fought back, narrowing the gap to 4-3. Despite Ostapenko holding a match point at 5-3 and Stakusic saving it, as well as three more at 6-5, a tiebreaker ensued, which Stakusic won decisively at 7-0, claiming a hard-fought 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(0) victory over the top seed.
