Eugenie Bouchard went down to Belinda Bencic in the second round of the Montreal Open 2025, marking the end of her Tennis career. The Swiss star overcame the 31-year-old 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 to progress further in the tournament, while Bouchard's campaign came to an end. The WTA star had announced earlier in July that the Montreal Open would be her last Tennis tournament.

It was an emotional night for the hometown girl, as she spoke highly of ending her Tennis career in Montreal, where she grew up. Bouchard claimed that she was a little kid in the stands, hoped, and dreamt of playing Tennis one day, which she eventually did. Bouchard claimed her life had completed a full circle with her retiring in Montreal.

"I think it’s so special to play my last match here in Montreal on this court in front of you guys. I remember being a little kid sitting in these stands, hoping and dreaming that I would play on this court one day. I grew up playing on these courts and courts all around Montreal and nearby, so it feels like such a full circle moment to finish my career here," said Bouchard after her loss to Belinda Bencic.

She later thanked her mother, father, and sisters for the sacrifices they made for her career. She claimed that whenever the crowd cheers her, it is also for them, and believed she would not be where she was if not for their support.

"I want to thank my mom, dad, sisters, & brother for their sacrifices. I want you to know that when this crowd cheers for me, they’re cheering for you too. I wouldn’t be here without you," an emotional Bouchard added in her statement.
