Tennis star Emma Raducanu was seen hiding behind the umpire’s chair during the first set of her match. This is due to an incident with an obsessed fan who was seen stalking  the former US Open winner and exhibiting obsessive behaviour, after her loss in the second-round of the Dubai Open of the WTA.

Emma Raducanu approached an official requesting that the fan be ejected from the arena. Reports indicate that the same person had approached the star player at a public place as well on Monday and was also spotted to be seated in the first few rows on Tuesday at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship.

As Raducanu saw the man return, she was anxious and struggled to focus on her game, forcing her to take the concern to the chair umpire. The WTA has taken measures to make sure that this individual will be banned from all the future WTA events. The WTA has been looking into the concern and have stated that they are, “actively working with Emma and her team to ensure her well-being and provide any necessary support. We remain committed to collaborating with tournaments and their security teams worldwide to maintain a safe environment for all players.”

Raducanu was welcomed back with a warm applause by the crowd and her opponent Muchova was seen comforting her. Following this incident, the player lost four consecutive matches, ultimately losing the match 7-6, 6-4. 

This incident highlights the darker side of Tennis. Unfortunately, Raducanu had already faced something similar before. In the year 2022, a man was give a five year restraining order because of him stalking the tennis star at her home in London.

Post this, Raducanu took to her social media handle to thank her fans and supporters during this crucial time. She left a heart warming message saying, “Thankyou for the messages of support. Difficult experience yesterday, but I will be okay and proud of how I came back and completed despite what happened at the start of the match.”
